The group began in 1998 as Indyboyz, a peer-led support group for transgender men, with two or three friends who came together looking for support from others like ourselves.
After a few years, a sister organization called IndyGirlz formed to support transgender women and began meeting in the same location.
The group has always welcomed gender-diverse people, but in growing recognition of non-binary gender identities and the need for gender-diverse safe spaces, in 2016 the two organizations merged under one name and began planning programming specifically for non-binary folks.
